Dale Hugh Silverthorn, 96, our sweet, kind and loving Husband, Dad, Grandpa, passed away at his home surrounded by family on January 17, 2018.

He was born July 26, 1921 to Hugh Brenchley Silverthorn and Mary Francis McIntyre in Ogden, Utah. At an early age he moved to Los Angeles California working as a wood pattern maker.

Seventy-five years ago, on August 12, 1942, he married Edna Dorothy Kapp who became his best friend and the love of his life. They had two children.

He enlisted and served in the US Navy during World War II serving in the Pacific Ocean off Okinawa and Iwo Jima. After his service, they moved back to Utah where he became a general contractor building several homes in the Ogden area. Later he worked at Weber State University as a carpenter foreman retiring after 21 years. He was a master craftsman. He built boats, campers, and later intarsia (wood mosaic), which he loved giving to family and friends.

His interest, besides his family, was their home in Bear Lake where they enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, and their many friends and social gatherings.

Dale is survived by his loving wife Edna and his children Lee Ann (Kelly) Mortensen and Scott (Jill) Silverthorn; he has 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

His parents preceded him in death, and one great-granddaughter Samantha Peden.

The family expresses their love and thanks to Tammy and David of Dignity Hospice for their tremendous care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations are made to your favorite charity.

Viewings will be held at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Sunday, January 21st from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Funeral Services will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Leavitt's Aultorest at the Mausoleum located at 836 36th St., Ogden, UT
