Darla Rae Walker

–

Bountiful, Utah

Darla Rae Snowball Walker returned with honor to her Heavenly Father on October 9, 2026. She passed away peacefully in Bountiful, Utah, surrounded by her family.

Darla was born in the spring of 1940 in Riverside, California, to her loving parents, Milton John Snowball and Donna Rasmussen. The oldest of five siblings, Darla enjoyed a happy childhood.

She was a woman of strong faith and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Through the many trials and hardships of her life, her testimony of the Savior never wavered. Darla was taught the gospel as a young child and began developing her testimony early in life. She spent her life learning about the Savior through prayerful study and reading, and by applying His teachings in her daily life. She grew in faith and love for God, faithfully serving Him and her family in all things.

In 1959, she married Murry Grant Gudmundson in the Los Angeles California Temple. They lived in Riverside, where they started a family, and eventually moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1972, Darla became a single mother to her five daughters, Dena, Shari, Lisa, Kara, and Tracy. She moved to Eugene, Oregon, where she raised her girls with courage and faith, sharing with them her love for Jesus Christ. In 1976, she moved her family to Provo, Utah, and later to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she worked as an allergy technician.

In 1980, Darla met the love of her life, William Lawrence (Larry) Walker Jr. Their courtship consisted of handwritten love letters exchanged back and forth until they married in the Provo Utah Temple, where they became eternal companions. Darla and her girls were blessed to have Larry in their lives as a loving husband and father. Together, they also embraced Larry’s five children: Jordan, Warren, David, Jonelle, and Dawn.

After spending many years in Bountiful, raising children and grandchildren, Larry and Darla moved to Clearfield, Utah, where they continued to lovingly care for and raise grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored them. Through great personal sacrifice, Darla willingly and lovingly accepted the challenges of teaching, loving, and serving her family. For eight years, Larry and Darla cared for their great-grandson, Meziah, who had special needs, providing him with a safe, secure, and loving environment.

During those years, Darla served the Lord in many ways. She and Larry were called to serve together as branch president and Relief Society president of the Chancellor Gardens Branch, an assisted living facility. They cared for many brothers and sisters as they approached the end of their lives and presided over 64 funeral services during their time serving there. Darla also served for several years as Relief Society president of the Bountiful 12th Ward, where members still remember the kind and loving way she served with encouragement and Christlike humility. Through her many other callings, she taught her family and others about the gospel. She spent her entire life serving God and her family, always with a smile.

After Larry passed away in 2010, Darla continued her lifelong service to the Lord by serving two full-time missions for the Church. Her first was a service mission in San Pablo, Philippines, where she served for 18 months alongside her dear friend and companion, Diane Montague, of Ogden, Utah. She later served at the Church History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. She also served as a full-time temple worker in the Ogden Utah Temple, which she considered her third mission.

Following her missions, Darla continued to share her life with those she loved. She and her daughter Dena moved to St. George, Utah, where they lived for several years with Darla’s sister and best friend, Karen, and Karen’s husband, Mike. They later moved with Karen to beautiful New Harmony, Utah, where they lived for a year. Darla then spent the final two years of her life in Albuquerque, New Mexico, being cared for by her daughters Dena and Tracy. Even there, she continued to share her love and kindness with friends and ward members.

In August 2026, following the passing of her beloved daughter Dena, Darla moved into Legacy House of Bountiful, an assisted living facility. There, her daughter Lisa, along with many kind and compassionate caregivers and hospice workers, cared for her until she peacefully passed away to reunite with her sweetheart, Larry, her girls, and other family members who awaited her there.

Darla was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Larry Walker; her parents, Milton and Donna Snowball; her sister, Claudia (Boyd) Penz; her brother-in-law, Mike (Karen) Knudsen; her daughters, Dena Gibson, Shari (John) Sandberg, and Kara (Scott) Thomas; her son, Jordan Walker; her twin grandsons, Jordan and Samuel Malone; her grandson, Cory Cox Nuckolls; and her great-grandson, Meziah Baker.

She is survived by her siblings, Wendell (Becky) Snowball, David (Mary Ann) Snowball, and Karen Knudsen; her children, Lisa Baptiste, Tracy Gudmundson, Warren (Cammie) Walker, David Jett Red, Jonelle (David) Nuckolls, and Dawn Malone; her grandchildren, Whitney Alfred, Alexis (Tina Rimal) Baptiste, Morgan Thomas, Wyatt (Faith Driggs) Thomas, Sadie Cook, Logan (Emma Caldwell) Thomas, Mac (Tori Bushman) Walker, Jonathan (Kristen Reed) Walker, Allison (Limmy) Souelian, Austin Malone, and Melissa Malone; and her great-grandchildren, Caleb Baker, Madyson Mattox, Kaylee Farrow, Charleen Souelian, Jolean Souelian, and Dallas Souelian.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the LDS church located at 1245 S. 1175 E. in Clearfield, Utah, under the direction of Myers Mortuary. The family will receive friends from noon to 12:45 p.m. before the service.
