Darrow McVey, treasured daughter and eldest child of Warren G and Von McVey of East Wenatchee, passed away following a long illness March 22, 2009 in Ogden, UT.
Shortly following her Oct. 11, 1944 birth at Batesville, AR, the family moved to the Wenatchee Valley where she was raised a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wenatchee, and was a 1962 Eastmont High graduate.
Darrow actively served her community, church and school during her high school years. Her natural gift for friendship and clever sense of humor made her a valuable member of several student committees. A beautiful yet humble girl, Darrow appreciated her experiences as homecoming queen, cheerleader, and float participant in Apple Blossom Parades.
Upon graduation, Darrow moved to Seattle, but spent the greater part of her life living and working in Bellevue and Issaquah. For 40 years, she was a successful administrative assistant to high level executives at such companies as Digital Equipment, Wright Runstad & Co., and Costco. She was known for her integrity, professionalism, and a legndary typing speed of 100 wpm!
In 1968, Darrow married Jim Clayton in Seattle, and had one child, Amy. Despite their eventual divorce, the couple made many personal sacrifices in order to provide Amy a stable, loving foundation for which she will always be grateful.
Darrow found great strength in her Christian upbringing that blessed her all the days of her life. In 1973, she joined the LDS church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, pianist, and secretary over 38 years time. She was a member of Bellevue 2nd & 7th Wards, and Issaquah 2nd Ward.
in 1996, Darrow moved to SLC, UT to be near her daughter and grandsons. She loved each one unconditionally and they loved her so. She will be missed profoundly.
Darrow is survived by her parents Warren & Von McVey ~ East Wenatchee, WA; brothers Marty (Cathy) McVey ~ Bellevue, WA and David McVey ~ Seattle, WA; nephew Gary McVey ~ Bellevue, WA; daughter Amy (Alex) Carrasco & 3 grandsons, Max, Jack and Adam ~ Layton, UT.
