David J. Somerville passed away at home on May 20, 2011, from a short, hard battle with cancer. He was born in Moab, UT on Oct 14, 1938, to Rulon and Fawn Somerville. His childhood was spent working with his dad on the ranch and living like a cowboy. His dad taught him all the ranch skills - roping, riding and hard work. David had creativity, vision, and determination to finish what he started.
David attended Brigham Young University and Utah State University where he graduated with a degree in Range Management and worked for the Natural Resource Conservation Service with the USDA. His job took him
to Arizona in 1964 where he met and married his wife, Judy Allred, in 1966 in the Mesa Arizona LDS temple.
After a devastating car accident at the age of 15, David survived and committed his life to serving the Lord. He worked in the Ogden LDS temple for 10 years. David was always a kind hearted man and willing to help anyone. He loved the scriptures and Joseph Smith. He had spiritual determination and faith that carried him through life.
David is survived by his wife, sons Eric (Joanna) of Clinton, UT and Loren (Caryn) of Tucson, AZ; daughters, Jana (Troy) Dial of Syracuse, UT; Alison (Corey) Benson of West Haven, UT; and Raelene (Justin) Bott of Kaysville, UT; and 16 grandchildren. Also his mother, Fawn Dickerman, Draper, UT; 2 brothers, Ked (Marleen), Monticello, UT and Mike (Judee) of Caldwell, ID, and one sister, Callie (Joe) Beall of Draper, UT.
He was preceded in death by his father; step-father, Ed Dickerman, grandparents and 1 grandson.
We are forever grateful to Dave for his faith, steadfastness, example and courage. We love him - our husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and our friend.
"Well done thou good and faithful servant."
The family wishes to thank Legacy Hospice for their care during the last few months.
