Delbert Louis Hirschi Obituary (1921 - 2016)

Delbert Louis Hirschi Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend. Delbert Louis Hirschi passed away peacefully at the age of 94, surrounded by loved ones on March 3, 2016. He was born August 28, 1921, in Brigham City, Utah to Louis A. Hirschi and Elizabeth Ann Goodliffe. He was raised on a cattle ranch in Park Valley, Utah, where as the oldest of six children he learned the value of hard honest work. Following graduation from Box Elder High School he went on to serve in the Army Air Corp during WWII. After his release he married his sweetheart Marvell Carter on June 19, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Their first home was in Brigham City while Delbert attended Utah State University, where he graduated with a Bachelors' degree in Accounting. He started his career with the IRS in Los Angeles, California and later transferred to the Ogden area where he continued his work with the IRS. He retired after 40 years of dedicated service. During this time, they were blessed with 4 children, Joan, Marilyn, Mark and Kathryn. Delbert was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings. He loved to serve, teach and help others and always had an uplifting thought or message to share with those he came in contact with. Delbert enjoyed fishing and hunting trips during his younger years. Later in life he went on many wonderful trips to distant places with his wife. He loved woodworking and built over 30 Grandmother Clocks that are treasured by many. He enjoyed being busy with projects, repairs around the house, working in his garden, and barbeques in the back yard. Many family and friends enjoyed his signature homemade root beer. Delbert is survived by his loving wife, Marvell and children, Joan (Jim Miller), Kaysville, UT; Marilyn Hill, North Ogden, UT; Mark (Diane), Plain City, UT; Kathryn (Don Owen), Lake Stevens, WA. He is survived by 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings Virginia Lorscheider (Carl), Weston Hirschi (Beverly), Joyce Meldrum (Keith). He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wayne (Faunell) and Maun (Cozetta (deceased)). The family would like to thank all the many kind and loving caregivers at The George Wahlen Veterans Memorial Home, Pioneer Care Center and IHC Hospice. We have been blessed with many friends and neighbors who have provided support, love and kindness over the last several years. We love you Dad! A viewing will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Pleasant View 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, 250 West Elberta Drive, Pleasant View, Utah. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12th at 11:00 AM with a viewing prior from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at the church. Interment will be at the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden, Utah.
