Delbert Howe Young Obituary (1907 - 2008)

GARRISON - Delbert Howe Young passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2008. He was 100 years old. He has moved on after a life adventure, hard work and service to others. Delbert was born in Driggs, Idaho on September 30, 1907. He was eighth of thirteen children. Son of George Spencer and Martha Rigby Young. He married Helen Grant in 1937. They had three children and raised them on a ranch near Garrison, Utah. He attended BYU where he was on the wrestling team. He was recruited by the U.S. Olympic wrestling team which he was very proud of. As a young man he had many occupations which took him all over the west. He spent considerable time in the Moab area and eventually moved his family to homestead a ranch near Garrison, Utah. He built a good ranch while teaching in a one room schoolhouse. He was instrumental in bringing electric power to the area. He truly made the desert bloom. Delbert loved sports, gardening, hunting, fishing, and reading. He spent countless hours in the temple and had a strong testimony of the importance of temple work. Survived by three children: Kathryn Sanders, Carol Harris and David Young. Twelve grandchildren and many great grandchildren who lovingly refer to him as Papa Great. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Rd, Layton UT 84041 Interment will be in the Garrison Cemetery.
