Delone Bradford Glover

–

Brigham City, UT

On Saturday, October 21, 2017, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home.
Delone Bradford Glover was born January 2,1924. Her parents were Alfred (Fred) Bradford and Viola Lorinda Hansen. She grew up in Corinne, Utah with her sister, Fern, and brothers, Jack and Dale.
She was a happy student at Corinne Elementary School. She moved on and skipped seventh grade making it quicker for her to attend Box Elder High where she excelled and graduated number two in the top ten of her class. Two years later, she married Clyde L. Glover of Brigham City and became an Air force wife.
From 1946-52, she worked part-time in the Veteran's Administration Program. She spent the next 35 years working at the Box Elder School District as a secretary and accountant. She retired in 1987.
Her motto for life was: "Service is the price you pay for the space you occupy." She was taught service and love of community, at a very young age, growing up in a very patriotic family. She always made volunteering a priority. She served in many community clubs: The Civic Improvement Club, The Kindergarten Club, Brigham City Museum Gallery, and The American Red Cross. She participated in politics holding vice-chairman, secretary, and delegate positions.
She served in many church positions: Primary, Sunday School, Mutual, Dance Director, Road Shows, and Den Mother. She held positions in the PTA at Lincoln Elementary School, Box Elder JR High, and Box Elder High. She participated in Peach Days for 45 years building floats, putting up window displays, art shows, helping with fruit display. She was chairman of the Junior Parade for 14 years.
She received recognition for much of her service in the form of awards. She received the "Utah Quiet Pioneer Award", Club Woman of the Year", Citizen of the Year", Mayor's Award in the Humanities", "Total Citizen", Chamber of Commerce Rural Genius Award", and was honored to be the Grand Marshal of Peach Days Parade.
She always believed in preserving the old for the young. She worked hard to preserve the Corinne Elementary School, she couldn't save it, but did save the bell. She fought to save the old Compton Building. She lost that battle too. She was a strong supporter of the restoration of the Dance Academy building. She was determined to save the old Brigham City Depot and won that one! She, along with a like-minded crew, saved and restored that building and it became the home of the Golden Spike Association, and the Christmas Tree Lane and Scarecrow Ally.
She loved history and heritage and trains. She knew the important historical significance of the Transcontinental Railroad that united our country and its completion right here in northern Utah. She and Bernice Anderson worked tirelessly to get this event on the map.
They brought the little celebration on May 10, 1869, to life every year, come hail or high water, in the form of a reenactment featuring local participants. They only had a little white obelisk standing among the sage brush to mark this place in history, in Promontory, Utah. Through their efforts they brought it from this humble beginning to become a National Park, with a Visitor Center and two replicas of the Jupiter and 119 (her favorite) locomotives. It grew from a small gathering of people to thousands visiting every year, not just on May 10th, but throughout the year. She devoted 47 years of her life to the Golden Spike.
She helped my sister, Rama, with her Baton and Dance Studio, "Barton Arte". Rama's students performed in parades and competitions, and recitals.
She started a "Red Hat's Club". She welcomed anyone who was willing to put on a red hat and come and have lunch; no requirements, no obligations, no assignments, no dues, just hats and wanting to be together.
She enjoyed working with and supporting the Museum Gallery.
Mom loved to read and paint and write poetry. She learned to knit from her grandmother, and crochet from her mother. She collected books, bears, birdhouses, teapots, plates, and pottery (made by Danny).
She and dad raised four children: Annette Ward, (George); Rama Rasmussen, (Steve); Marco Simonsen, (Charles); and Bradford Glover. She has 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; her parents, Fred and Lorinda; her daughter, Rama; her sister, Fern Whitaker (Lynn); her brother, Jack Bradford (Colleen); and her great-grandson, Brayden Doutre.
Mom received many awards and accolades for all her hard work. They, though well deserved, are not her legacy. In time they will all be forgotten Her legacy will live on and on in what she taught and gave to her family and friends. Her example was service. She taught us that it's the little things in life that matter. The moments filled with love and giving that really count. The little acts of kindness that make the difference. The simple joys that are here all around us every day like, rainbows, dandelion puffs, fairy rings, birthdays, holidays, flowers, animals, finger prints left on walls, hugs, traditions, everything wonderful in every season, family, friends, music, dancing... -These are what and where happiness is found.
Mom "talked" to the world by putting little thoughts and messages in the big window of her home. We were thrilled to see our names there commemorating special events in our lives. It was her way of sending love and a little bit of happiness to all the passersby. It is now our turn to send a special message to her. It is there, in her window. It says, "Thank you, mom. We love and miss you. Until... again."
Mother's favorite movie was E.T. She loved the end where it was time for him to return home. He wanted to go, yet hated to leave. He and Elliot promised to keep each other in their hearts. Mother, ... you'll "be right here" ... -Forever.
In celebration of mom's life, we are having a get together at Myers Mortuary on Saturday October 28, 2017 from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m.
Graveside services will be held following at 2:00 pm at the Brigham City Cemetery.
