Delwin Leroy Thompson Obituary (1923 - 2007)

DELWIN L. THOMPSON ROY - Our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Delwin LeRoy Thompson, passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 8, 2007, at Peach Tree Place. He was surrounded by his family. Delwin was 84 years old. Delwin was born October 15, 1923 in Kanesville, Utah, the son of Charles Henry and Ada Ann Perry Thompson. Delwin grew up in Kanesville, Utah, where he attended local schools and was raised on a farm. He was the middle child in a family of nine children, Zelda, Eldwood, Leslie, Marcella, Duella, Ray, Thelma, and Carol. He worked at the Defense Depot in Ogden where he received many service and safety awards. He retired after 35 years. Delwin married Belva Viana Payne on November 28, 1945, in Kanesville, Utah. On April 22, 1961, their marriage was solemnized in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. Delwin and his wife lived in Roy for over 50 years. They raised six children, three girls and three boys. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served in several different organizations. He was in the Elders Quorum Presidency, High Priest Group Leadership, Ward Membership Clerk, and Ward Clerk under 5 different Bishop's. He also served as an Ogden Temple ordinance worker along with his wife Belva. He loved to garden and always grew a large garden every year. His friends and neighbors remember him best for his big tomatoes and sweet peaches. His hobbies included painting and wood working. He enjoyed cutting out wood projects for the Relief Society of his ward. After his retirement he spent a lot of his time oil painting pictures of landscapes which he enjoyed very much. He won awards for some of those paintings. He was asked to paint a very large canvas mountain scene for the Roy Central Stake float for Ogden City Fourth of July parade which he did. That painting was later put in the "Thompson Garden" Museum in Roy. Delwin also spent some time writing his life's history after the passing of his wife. The last 2 A 1/2 years of his life he lived in Peach Tree Assisted Living in West Haven, Utah. He is survived by his children Sheryn (Floyd) Berghout, Darrel (Rinda) Thompson, LuAnn (Blaine) Oman, David (Jeri) Thompson, and Delwin Wayne (Susan)Thompson, 20 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, two sisters Marcella Muribrook, Deuella Kartchener and one brother Ray Thompson. Delwin was preceded in death by his wife Belva, his daughter Carolyn, his parents, five of his siblings, one grandson, and two great grand-daughters. The family would like to thank Peach Tree Place for the love and care they gave to Dad while he was living there as well as Hospice Care, and Dr. Jeffrey DeGrauw. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., at the Roy Central Stake Center, 4900 South 2000 West, Roy. A viewing will be held for family and friends Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, from 6-8:00 p.m., and Monday from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church.
