Dennis Steven Porter passed away on Monday, August 20, 2018, of hepatic failure. Dennis was born on March 24, 1951, to Royal Lorenzo and Marjorie Mickelwaite Porter. Dennis grew up in Ogden, attending Ogden City Schools, and graduating from Ogden High in 1969.
Dennis married Joyce Taggart on June 22, 1976 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised four fantastic children: Trever M (Carah), Trent S (Sarah), Brandon D (Danielle), and Sarah S (Mike Tulane).
Dennis received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with a minor in Economics from Weber State University. Dennis passed the CPA exam in 1974 and worked as an accountant since that time, retiring in 2017. He enjoyed his work for Wood, Richards, and Associates, having been affiliated with that firm since 1982. Dennis also served as vice president/treasurer and member of the board of directors of RAYCO Corporation. He also worked as controller/secretary/treasurer for Daniels Incorporated for over 30 years. Dennis said, "I believe the best thing I learned was how to work, that is, I came to believe in an honest day's labor no matter what the pay. I also learned how to pay my own way."
Serving in various callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was a natural for Dennis. He served as a Sunday school teacher on many occasions, as a Scoutmaster, Elder's Quorum Instructor, Finance Clerk for nine years, a High Councilor in the Mt. Ogden Stake, as a counselor in the bishopric of the Summer Meadows Ward, and as Stake Executive Secretary for 14 years in the Burch Creek Stake. Dennis had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and his role in the gospel. He always honored his priesthood.
Dennis had a passion for his family and photography. He loved his grandchildren. He would frequently ask Joyce to call and see if some of the kids could come to their home so Grandma and Grandpa could tend them. He loved watching (couch coaching) the Jazz or other sports teams. Dennis loved eating out, and he enjoyed watching movies that were out of this world.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Joyce, his four children and their spouses, and 17 grandchildren (9 girls and 8 boysa"he used to make bets with Joyce on who would have that one boy to even the score of boys to girls). He is survived by his siblings: Larry (Sylvia), Gary (Jeanine), Nancy Morse, and Renae (Al) Hepler, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents.
