Deward "Pierre" D Norman Obituary (1922 - 2017)

SMSGT Deward "Pierre" D. Norman (retired) was born August 12, 1922 in Romance, Arkansas and peacefully passed from this earth on June 21st, 2017. He was a much-loved great-grandpa, grandpa, husband, father, brother, and uncle. He was very proud of his family and his military service. Pierre and his wife Irene, have 17 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Irene Norman, four of his five children, Candice Gerloff, Clarinda (Cindy) Erickson (Mark), Tanya Baker and Jeff Norman (Sheri) and his dear sister Edna Grace Wiggs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and flora Norman and his son David Norman. He proudly served from 1942 to 1946 in the Navy and the Air Force from 1948 until retiring in 1964. He was communication specialist in the Air Force flying 6 presidents in his career; Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon as Vice President. He flew Herbert Hoover to John Kennedy's inaugural ball. His primary assignment was with the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Army, Secretary of the Navy and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He was quoted as saying, "Cherish your family, they're the most important things in your life. Jobs come and go and experiences are here and there, but family will always be there." He served diligently in the LDS Church and worked in five LDS temples. He was a dedicated genealogist. He was an avid golfer winning many trophies and awards and passed the love of golf on to his children and grandchildren. Another favorite past time was fishing. Our deepest thanks to the George E.
