Diane Johnson

–

Brigham City, Utah

Diane Elizabeth Schmidt Johnson was born on the 21st of May, 1945, in Moline, Illinois. Her father was tragically killed in an accident before she was born, so Diane grew up closely with her grandmother, mother, many aunts and uncles, and spent her early years on the family farm. Diane loved having a little brother and had many adventures as they moved around Illinois and spent some years living in New Orleans.

After graduating from Bloom High School, Diane attended the University of Illinois, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Diane loved to paint and create art. Whether it was hours sitting in nature and painting, adding vines to the walls of her home or a kid-crafted theme for the Christmas tree, she was always creating something.

She shared her talents throughout her life in her work as a substitute teacher and 4-H leader. She helped lead early preschool groups with other moms, taught kids to sew and crochet, sewed multiple items for others and was a constant source of creativity in her family and neighborhood.

Diane faithfully served in many church callings, including Primary Music Leader, Relief Society President, Stake Relief Society Counselor, Activities Director, and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. She put so much effort into every calling and made memories for everyone involved. 5th Ward members may remember the black and white silent movie created in the late 80s, which involved every member and still gets a good laugh out of her family.

Diane’s most cherished roles were those of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found her greatest joy in the company of her family, and her love for them could be seen in countless acts of service, including the many quilts she made for those she loved. Diane and her husband, Ronald Gale Johnson, were married on June 11, 1967, and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in August 1976. They shared 59 years of marriage, building a life together centered on family, faith, and devotion to one another. Ronald was her steadfast companion throughout their journey together.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Duane and Adele Foster Schmidt, and her brother, Walter Proffitt. She is survived by her loving husband, Ronald; her children, Aaron (Shareen) Johnson, Carrie (Richard) Marshall, Elizabeth Vanderhoof, and Joanna (Adam) Walden; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dan Hamilton, Atlas Home Health, and Williamsburg Senior Living in Logan for the kindness and care shown to Diane.
