Don Edward Clarke, 83, passed away on October 18, 2017 from complications due to a stroke.
He was born June 10, 1934, to Thomas Leroy and Eliza Josephine Smith Clarke. He was a lifelong resident of Taylor.
Don was sealed to the love of his life, Rosalie Brown, on August 22, 1958 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by Apostle Mark E. Petersen. They had 3 children. He was the best husband, dad, and grandpa anyone could ask for. The most important things in his life were his family, his missionaries, and the gospel. He currently has three grandchildren serving missions: Jessica in Louisiana, Baton Rouge; Jaden in Germany, Frankfurt; and Timber in Michigan, Lansing missions. Education played a big role in his life. Don always made sure the grandkids worked hard and did their best in school. He even provided them with a hot breakfast before they went off to school. Many hours were spent with him at his kitchen table working on homework. Each day of his life was spent in service to others. He would often be found on his tractor in someone's yard plowing, tilling or removing snow. He enjoyed farming and spent many hours in his beloved garden providing vegetables to family and friends.
Don attended the Old Taylor School, West Weber School and graduated from Weber High. He also attended Weber College and graduated from Utah State University with a Master's in education. A lifelong learner, Don retired from Weber School District in 1992 after 32 years of service. He spent many years as a principal at Burch Creek, Municipal and Kanesville Elementaries.
He was an active member of the LDS church. He has served in many callings throughout his life, most recently teaching Sunday School to "his kids" that he dearly loved. His love of the gospel was shared with others as a missionary through his mission to the Great Lakes Mission and 5 LDS missions with his wife: Temple Square, Canada Halifax, Temple Square Airport, Utah Ogden and Cove Fort. He was the first member of the stake to complete the Book of Mormon Challenge, receiving his pin on Sunday.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rosalie, sons Corry Don and Layne Don, daughter-in-law Diana, and great granddaughter, Tillie. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law Marvin and Verla and brother-in-law Rex. He is survived by his daughter, Donette Crayton, (Stephen and Brenda Grange), all of Taylor; grandchildren: Kaelani (Ian) Stanger, Glen (Hanah), Bridger (Tate), Colby Grange, Kailee May, Timber, Jessica, Jenna, Alexis (Tanner) Wade, Jaden, Hanna, Jordan; great-grandchildren: Preslee Rose, Sawyer, Finn, Lincoln and Hyrum who were the highlight of his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Carma Kirby, Laree (Reed) Hill, Marian (Dee) Schenck and brother Allan (Shirley) Clarke.
