Don Norman Read

HOOPER -- Don Norman Read, 89, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the Legacy House in South Ogden.

He was born February 14, 1919 in Hooper, UT to Thomas Read and Elizabeth Ann Christensen. He married Velma Beasley on August 25, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; she died on October 11, 1995.

Don was an active member of the LDS Church and had served in various positions: Bishop, Bishopric and High Council. He also served on the Water Conservancy Board, and in WWII with the Army Air Corp.

He loved to hunt, fish, golf and garden.

Surviving are his daughters, LeAnna (Ken) Willmore, Gaye (Daniel) Johnson and Rayma (Joseph) Markland; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Zelma Hancock and Armina Widdison. He was preceded in death by his wife; grandson, Joel Mair and a great-grandson, Matthew Mair.

Services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hooper 3rd Ward chapel, 5601 South 6100 West with Bishop Korry Green officiating. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West and on Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.

Interment, Hooper City Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
