Donald Ray Averett

OGDEN - Donald Ray Averett passed away peacefully on October 7, 2006 at the home of his son, surrounded by all of his children and many of his grandchildren.

He was born December 28, 1920 in Acequia, Idaho, the first born child of Percy Rex Averett and Clara Elizabeth Fowler. Dad moved to the Ogden area with his mother and siblings after his father's death when he was approximately 12 years old. He lived the remainder of his life in Ogden; except for the four years he proudly served our country in WW II. Dad was stationed in the South Pacific and spoke of many events that happened during those years. He had a deep love of history and read many books.

Dad returned home from the war and met his sweetheart Mary Burnett. They were married on June 22, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple, December 1, 1972.

Dad loved to camp and fish with his sons and their friends, and later his son-in- laws and grandchildren. He enjoyed attending WSU football games, especially when all the family went with him. Dad would often remark to people, "This is my family", and then flash a giant grin.

He served many positions in the church, with his last calling in the Ogden Temple for four years. Dad loved his family and was deeply loved by each of them.

He was preceded in death by his eternal companion Mary; parents; brother Elbert R. Averett; son-in-law Dean Charlesworth; and grandson Clint DeBoer.

He is survived by his children Rex (Elizabeth) Averett, Ogden, UT, Michelle Charlesworth, Clinton, UT, Robin (Robert) DeBoer, Ogden, UT, Bret (Denae) Averett, Roy, UT; 16 grandchildren; 17 A 1/2 great-grandchildren; sisters Bette (Jack) Browning, Houston, TX and Joan (Lyall) Brady, Pingree, ID.

Our family would like to thank Access Hospice for their support this past year, especially Annette Wood for her gentleness and expertise in caring for our father.
