Donald Evan Godfrey

Donald Evan Godfrey passed away on March 2, 2017 at his home at Brookdale Assisted Living with his son at his side. He was 94 years old and made the best of every one of them. He passed away due to complications of pneumonia.

He married Gertrude Downey on January 4, 1947 in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Donald graduated from Cozad High School, in Cozad, Nebraska. Shortly after graduation, he taught three years in a one room country grade school in Nebraska prior to being inducted into the Army in 1942. He served on Adak in the Aleutian Islands on Guam and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in 1946. His wife and the G.I. Bill put him through the University of Oklahoma in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He then went to work for the California Division of Highways, serving in the Design, Construction, Public Relations and Traffic Engineering Departments. In 1970, he accepted a job as Traffic Engineer for the City of Ogden, Utah, where he served until his retirement in 1987. He has since pursued the joys of life-traveling all over the word, golfing (he recorded two holes-in-one, the second coming on a par four), counting cards at Blackjack, playing bridge with good friends and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his brother, Earl, his sons; Kelly Godfrey (Sharon) of Cypress, CA, and Dennis Godfrey (Cindy) of North Ogden, as well as 5 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Trudy, of 68 years, 3 brothers, and his sister.

A private family viewing will be on Saturday, March 11, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. at Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden.
