Donald Jones Vest
ROY - Donald Jones Vest passed away quietly in his home in Roy, Utah on July 19, 2009 in the presence of several of his children. He was 81. Donald was born on January 12, 1928 in Taylor Utah to Edwin T. Vest and Orpha Jones. His parents, his twin sister Donna Burnett, and two brothers Grant F. Vest and Edwin D. Vest precede him in death. Donald married Dorothy London December 28 1948 and was married 58 years when Dorothy passed on. He is the father of six children, Darwin K. Vest, who preceded him in death and is survived by Edwin D. Vest, Donald B. Vest (Cheryl), CPO Thomas H. Vest (USCG Retired) (Pat), Dorothy Price (Dennis) and Vicki Woodward (Craig).
Donald grew up in Burch Creek, the Uintah Basin and Morgan Utah and graduated Morgan High School in 1946. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the 3rd Armored-Spearhead Division in the U. S. Army. He graduated the University of Utah in 1954 with a B. S. degree in Biology. He worked as a trainer, training manager, and in Human Resources most of his career. He was particularly proud of his participation in the company that made a major portion of, as he called it "The Man on the Moon" project. He most recently worked at the Clearfield Job Corps Center. On retirement he started a second career making custom deer and elk antler handled knives, and buying and selling military,=0 Acowboy, and Indian memorabilia in gun shows through out the west. His business card listed him as "Trader of the West".
Dad had four great joys in his life. First was his family of six children of whom he was commensurately proud with one son having served in the Army, one son having served in the Navy as a Corpsman and eventually making the U. S. Coast Guard his career. In addition to this are his fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. His second joy was deer hunting, which he taught to all of his children. His third joy was camping with his family. His fourth joy was buying and trading in gun shows and collecting guns, particularly military guns.
The family sincerely thanks Vista Care Hospice, Cynthia and Amber for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the American Cancer Society.
