Donnetta Hunter Dustin Obituary (1921 - 2007)

DonNetta Dustin, 86, passed away peacefully in American Fork, UT on December 14, 2007 of causes incident to age. DonNetta was born March 31, 1921 in Clifton, ID, the third child of Cyril S. and Pearl Henderson Hunter. She grew up on the family farm where she had wonderful memories of working with her family and riding horses. She attended local schools in Clifton, where she loved to play basketball and sing in the school choir. DonNetta met her eternal sweetheart, Arlo Dustin, in Clifton. He came from California to visit relatives and soon fell in love with "Donna." They were married Oct. 25, 1940, and moved to California to make their home. They were blessed with four children: Allen, Judy, Michael and Patrick. They were later sealed as a family in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. DonNetta was deeply devoted to her family, especially her loving husband of 66 years. Arlo passed away in March of this year, and we knew mom would follow shortly. DonNetta was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a special love for the Prophets. President Harold B. Lee had grown up in the same area and she often reminisced about his family. Donna was a very loving and giving person and served in many positions, including Visiting Teacher, Primary presidency, Stake Young Women's secretary, and Compassionate Service leader. One of her most precious memories was to sing with the Gridley 2nd Ward Singing Mothers, with several of their performances broadcast on local television. Donna had a clear and beautiful soprano voice and often sang and harmonized with her children and grandchildren. She loved to sew and do handwork. She had a wonderful knack for crocheting and could create a pattern for almost anything. Her handiwork included doilies, tablecloths, quilts, Barbie doll clothes, and special snowflake ornaments for the Christmas tree. She was an excellent cook and was well-known for her pies, "Grandma eggs," and homemade bread and jam. She had a green thumb and often had an array of beautiful African violets on her front porch. She knew the name of every flower and for many years had a variety of beautiful blooms in her front yard. In 2005, Arlo and DonNetta moved to Utah. Their health was failing and they made the decision to spend time with their sons, Allen and Michael. It was a joy to have them and repay a small portion of the lifelong sacrifices they made for their children. Surviving are two sons and one daughter; Allen of Lehi, UT; Judy of Gridley, CA; and Michael (Teresa) of Perry, UT; 12 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, a sister, and her son, Patrick. We imagine a great reunion in heaven. A family service was held Friday, December 21st at Myers Mortuary Chapel in Brigham City, with interment at the cemetery in Preston, Idaho.
