Dora Marie Bryant Garrard
1911 ~ 2008
Ogden - Our beloved mother and grandmother passed away Wednesday, September 24th, six days prior to her 97th birthday. She was born to Cora Hazeltine Davis and John James Bryant in Tremonton, Utah on September 30, 1911 and was reared and educated in Ogden. She married Leo Levi John Garrard in Brigham City, Utah on June 24, 1927, and they were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. Her eternal companion passed away a few days after their 71st wedding anniversary.
Dora met Leo at Bozo's Soda Fountain on Washington Boulevard, where she made him milk shakes during his lunch breaks from the American Can Company. They enjoyed dancing at White City, camping in Yellowstone and the High Uintahs, riding bikes, and cooking early morning breakfasts at the Meadows in South Fork. Because Dora was a wonderful cook, she and Leo were often asked to prepare ward dinners for the Ogden 47th LDS Ward. Her dill pickles and potato salad were legendary. For several years, Dora worked as a cook in the Ogden City school lunch program. She was a devoted mother and enjoyed quilting, reading, bottling fruit, and her daily walks with her dog Cindy. She spent a part of every day working in the garden in her straw hat. A spunky gal, she attributed her longevity to eating five fruits and vegetables a day and seldom missing her morning constitutional.
Dora lived in the home that Leo built until the beginning of this year, and then moved to the Gardens Assisted Living Home. She enjoyed her few months at the Gardens and loved the special people who work there.
Mom will be missed by her son Michael Garrard of Centerville, daughter-in-law Heidi Moncrief of Eden and their children Joanna (Phil) Wheelton of Centerville and John Garrard of Logan. She will also be missed by her daughter Jan Healy, son-in-law Michael J. Healy both of South Ogden and their children Sarah (Jon) Vance of Lee's Summit MO, Mike (Shelby) Healy of North Ogden, Nate (Robin) Healy of South Ogden, Libby (Peter) Kleyn of South Ogden, Tim, Jill and Missy Healy, all of South Ogden; along with eleven precious great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Joyce; sister Dorothy Betteridge and brothers Joseph, James, William, John Calvin, Gordon, Tom, Walter and Arthur Bryant.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 27th at 10:30 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden where friends may call prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m.
Interment will be at the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden.
