In Loving Memory of Doris N. Amussen

Doris N. Amussen, age 97, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born on December 5, 1928, to Leone and Clark Nye. She had two half brothers, Roger and Jerry Nye.

Doris enjoyed performing from an early age. In high school, she played the lead role in the school production of June Mad, which traveled to several other high schools. She later attended Chico State University, where she was affiliated with the Pi Kappa Zigma sorority. Her love of performing continued in college, where she took the lead in a production called Can Can Dance. Dancing and performing brought her great joy.

On July 30, 1947, Doris married Virgel Maw. Together, they raised two daughters, DeeAnne and Pamela. Virgel preceded her in death on January 18, 1972.

On April 12, 1974, Doris married Richard Amussen. They met while working together at Defense Depot Ogden, where they shared 30 years of working life. They also shared a love for their Samoyed, Fria, and the nine puppies she had, who brought them much happiness. Richard preceded her in death on March 9, 2012.

Doris is survived by her daughters, DeeAnne Cox (Darrell) and Pamela McCormick (Jed); seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Doris was known for her long, beautiful red hair, which often drew compliments. She was a loving, friendly, and fun-loving woman whose warmth and personality made her a joy to be around. She will be remembered for her spirited nature, her love of performing and dancing, and the special memories she created throughout her life.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Applegate Home Care and Hospice for the love, kindness, and compassionate care they provided Doris. Their visits meant so much to her, and she always looked forward to seeing them. She grew fond of each of you, and your care brought comfort to her and to the family. We are deeply grateful for all you did.

In keeping with Doris's wishes, there will be no funeral service. She documented her wishes for two separate family gatherings, and those wishes will be honored.

Please help us celebrate Doris by sharing memories and uploading photos to her memorial page at https://myers-mortuary.com/obituaries/doris-amussen.
