DORIS MURPHY SHIPLEY

After a long battle with the ravages of Alzheimer's Dementia, Doris Murphy
Shipley passed away Tuesday, February 4th, 2003, at the Peachtree Assisted
Living Center where she had resided for the past four and one-half years.

Doris was born in Corinne, Utah on April 17, 1919, the third daughter of
Milton Floyd and Emma LoVean Jensen Murphy. Corinne was her residence for a
majority of her life. She attended school in Corinne, and graduated from Box
Elder High School in 1937, but spent one year in school in Siloam Springs,
Arkansas, while living with an aunt and uncle.

On 29 June 1946, Doris married L. Bert Shipley in Evanston, Wyoming. She
inherited Bert's two children whom she raised as her own. Doris and Bert
moved to Corinne in 1951, and became the proprietors of Murph's Inn in
Corinne. The Inn was built by her father, and is now known as Mim's. Her
skill of making hamburgers and homemade chili were well-known and
appreciated throughout Utah. A map that was used to direct visitors to
Thiokol in the 1950's and 1960's, was given to Bert and Doris with a marking
of 'Murph's Inn, Last Chance'. She also had worked at the Arsenal during
the war years as a munitions specialist, which is now Hill Air Force Base in
Ogden and was also employed at the Ogden Defense Depot.

Bert and Doris always had a beautiful garden. Travel was an important
activity and they visited every capital of the United States, including
Alaska and Hawaii. They were able to visit Germany and other parts of
Europe with their son and daughter-in-law while he was stationed in Germany
with the Marine Corp.

Upon retirement, Doris' need to keep busy took her to the Brigham City
Community Hospital, where whe was a volunteer for over 20 years. She was a
Red Cross chairperson for many years.

Surviving Doris are her two children and their families, Hope and Terry
Welch of North Salt Lake, and Alan Bert and Mary Jo Cutler Shipley, of
Arlington Texas. Her grandchildren are Monika, Toni, Kristen, Shawn, Corey,
Kimberly and Trevor, and her great-grandchildren are Caleb, Seriah, Gavin,
Karson, Natalie, Megan, Gabriel.

Siblings that survive are Ruth Coberly, Newport Oregon, Melvin Murphy,
Corinne, Arthur Murphy, Fort Worth Texas, and Max Murphy, San Diego
California. She was preceded in death by her husband Bert in May 1995, as
well as her brother Curtis and sister Fern Jensen.
