Dorothy Arlene Jackson Loughton Obituary (1922 - 2010)

Dorothy Arlene Jackson Loughton Ogden - Our much loved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy Arlene Jackson Loughton died peacefully at her home January 11, 2010, with her family at her bedside. Dorothy was born July 3, 1922 in Ogden, Utah to LeRoy and Lucille Jackson. She attended Ogden City schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1940. She also attended Weber State College. Just after Pearl Harbor she married her high school sweetheart, Spencer P. Loughton in the Salt Lake Temple on February 27, 1942. Spence, her lifelong love, then enlisted in the Navy and was sent to the Pacific Theater. Dorothy joined him along with their 2 month old son when Spence was stationed at Alameda Naval Air Base where Spence was an aircraft mechanic and a flight engineer. While in California, Dorothy hosted many dear friends and family who were journeying to and from various military assignments. They returned to Ogden in 1945 where they raised their family. Dorothy was very talented in many areas and used her talents in various jobs throughout her life. She worked as a seamstress for Ogden Tailoring, as a dental assistant for Dr. Felt and Dr. Bill Burdett, a bookkeeper for B&B Clothing and the Ogden Dental Group. She served as attendance secretary at Ogden High School and then as the Media Director for Ogden City Schools, retiring in 1987. Dorothy had many friends including the "Canasta Group" and the Women's Club. She and Spence built two cabins on Henry's Lake, Idaho and extended their friendships there as well for 50 years. Many wonderful family vacations were spent there and those memories will always be cherished. Dorothy served faithfully and selflessly throughout her life. She was a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings including being Primary President in the Jackson Ward and Relief Society President in the Manor Branch well into her 80's. Dorothy and Spence were Ordinance workers for 8 years in the Ogden Temple. Together they travelled the world with their friends and visited over 20 Temples. Spence and Dorothy were blessed with, and are survived by their 3 children, Jack (Lynnette), Uintah; Scott (Michelle), Kaysville; and Barbara (Dean) Stimpson, West Warren. She is also survived by 3 brothers, Norman (Paula), Victor, AZ; Lee (Virginia), Salt Lake; and Paul (Iva), Kent, Washington. She has eleven adoring grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren with two more soon to arrive. Her family feels privileged and grateful to have had Dorothy in their lives. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 15, 2010 at the Jackson Ward Church, 26th and Jackson, Ogden, UT at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call on Thursday, January 14th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary of Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd and again on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery. Dorothy's family has many, many cherished and wonderful memories of her and will never forget this beautiful and gracious woman who lived a beautiful and gracious life.
