–

Brigham City, Utah

Doyle “Dean” Wood, 73, of Brigham City, Utah returned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday January 20, 2026. Dean was born in Ogden, Utah on March 1, 1952, to parents Doyle Vincen and LouDean (Sharp) Wood. Dean spent his early childhood in Clearfield, Utah before his family relocated to Corrine, Utah. He graduated in 1970 from Box Elder High school.

He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in London, England. Upon returning, he attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, where he met his wife, Karen Goodman. They were married and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 25th, 1975, and later moved to Blackfoot, Idaho 2 weeks before the Teton Dam broke in 1976. During his time there, he worked at Idaho Supreme and also at Karen's family grocery store in Moreland, Idaho.

1980 brought the birth of their only child, a daughter, Amara. After separating in 1985 from his wife, Dean spent a few years in Blackfoot until finally returning to the Brigham City area. Over the next years, he spent time working different jobs while spending what time he could with his daughter and then later his grandchildren. Dean loved to spend his time with family and friends playing board and card games. He loved baseball, football, basketball, and taking his daughter to several Aggies football games. Dean also loved bowling and participated in several leagues in his life.

Dean spent the last decade living in Brigham City at Brigham Senior Housing. He had many friends and loved to attend the trips offered there to a variety of places with them. Dean was known for being very talkative and friendly with everyone. Above all else, he loved his family and his Savior. Dean had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and instilled that love into those around him.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents Doyle and LouDean Wood, his brother Clifton Wood, and his sister Audrine, grandchild Anthony VanderSys who will be very happy to see him, and lastly his beloved Karen who passed just about 3 months ago, and even though they were separated, he still loved her and died of a broken heart.

Dean is survived by sister Ethel (David) Morse, Arlene (Don) Bronson, and Sara Wood, daughter Amara (Michael) VanderSys, grandchildren Darrel and Jaren VanderSys and many nieces and nephews.
