Dwayne "Bill" Williams Obituary (1931 - 2012)

Bill Williams Ogden - Dwayne "Bill" Williams, 81, died Nov. 18, 2012 in Ogden surrounded by his family after complications of prostate cancer. Bill was born at home on a wheat farm in Milan, Kansas, on Sept. 13, 1931. He worked on the farm and in construction and aircraft maintenance until joining the Marines during the Korean War. When he returned, he married his pen pal sweetheart, Pat Hutchcroft and they moved to Colorado. He studied at Colorado State University, getting his bachelor's in vocational agriculture in 1959. He then went to work as a 4-H agent, and they started a family, adopting Laurie in 1961 and Michael in 1963. A few years later, Bill took his young family overseas to Caracas, Venezuela, to work for a wheat marketing company for two years. When they returned to the U.S., Bill went back to grad school at Colorado State to get his masters in ag economics in 1969. He went to work for the Planning Support Group of the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs in Billings, Mont. He then worked for the BIA's Office of Technical Assistance and Training in Brigham City, Utah. He later worked for the BIA in Washington, D.C. and again in Billings before retiring in Dec. 1989 and returning to Ogden. A diehard Denver Bronco and Utah Jazz fan, Bill also loved stamp collecting, photography, sourdough bread baking, tending his roses, bird watch and cooking breakfast for friends at Willard Bay. Many mornings were spent baking biscuits with his kids and grandkids. And he was always fixing something for someone or working with wood in his garage. He and Pat loved to camp and fish and travel the Western U.S. in their VW Vanagon. They even drove to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. They enjoyed visiting other countries, including South and Central America, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand. He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Pat; daughter, Laurie, son-in-law, Mark and grandson, Ryan; son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Nancy, grandson, Brian and granddaughter, Jessica; nieces, Rita and Carla Fabrizio. He also is survived by sisters, LaDeana and Zelda and brothers, Dale and Elroy. He was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Erica; his parents, Lee and Lettie, and sister, Dora. Donations can be made to the Nature Conservancy, CARE, UNICEF, Doctors without Borders or public radio. At Bill's request, no services were held, but there was a heck of a sendoff with his friends at a local brew pub. Cremation under the direction of Myers Ogden Mortuary.
