Earl D. Henry

Portage, Earl D. Henry, 68, passed away Friday, February 15, 2008 at Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah, surrounded by his family after a long battle with Diabetes and the effects of a stroke.
He was born May 28, 1939, the son of Eugene Westly and Goldia Elizabeth Myers Henry, in South Greenfield Missouri. Where he spent a happy childhood with a large extended family and friends. He graduated from Greenfield High School. Earl served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until he was honorably discharged in 1964.
He married Georgia Leona Shepherd August 10, 1963 in Greenfield. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
Earl and Georgia moved to Portage, Utah where they raised their family. Dad was a hard worker and would take any joy to support his family. Most notable was a farm hand at Peterson Herefords in Washakie, Harris Machine shop in Portage, and as a maintenance mechanic, at Lazy-Boy in Tremonton, Where he was well loved and respected by his fellow workers.
Dad could fix anything and many times had to fabricate parts to make things work, his mind was always running over ways to build things, his sons would often call him for advice about how to repair their own vehicles and as a rule he would always have the solution. He was happiest when he was working on a project.
Earl served as the Fire Chief in Portage and helped to establish the Portage Fire Department.
He was a High Priest in the Portage LDS Ward and served in the Sunday school and Melchizdedek Priesthood Presidency.
Dad adored his grandchildren and loved spending time in the outdoors and camping with his family.
His grandchildren will always fondly remember his gigantic bowl of popcorn. And the huge doll houses he built for his granddaughters.
Earl is survived by his wife Georgia. Sons, Lloyd Eugene, Missouri, James (Chrysanne) Hyrum, Utah, Chris (Cindy) Tampa, Florida, Nolan (Marci) Bancroft, Idaho, Joseph (Melissa) Pine Knot, Kentucky, and daughters, Kara Lea (Frank) Ruff, Seymore, Missouri, Callie (Mitch) Egbert, Hyrum, Utah, Rachel and Heather, Portage, Utah
Sisters, Barbara (Paul) Friend, Greenfield Missouri, Bonnie Taylor, South Greenfield, Missouri and sister-in-law Marilyn Henry, Seattle Washington.
Twenty four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Charles Thomas (Tommy) Henry, daughter Stephanie, son Brian, and Brother-in-law Russell Taylor.
A family graveside service will be held at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Myers Mortuary, Brigham City Utah; interment will be in the Portage Utah.
Our family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the Doctors and staff at the Logan Regional Hospital, Sunshine Terrace, and Intermountain Hospice, for their kindness and compassion. They treated dad and our family, with respect, dignity and love.
"Till we meet again Dad."
