Edna Helena Christensen Wirick
1917 - 2008
OGDEN - Edna Wirick, our loving great grandmother, grandmother, mother, and friend passed away at the Aspen Care Center, Ogden, on October 6, 2008, at the age of 90.
Edna was born November 1, 1917, in Brigham City, Utah, the oldest child of John and Henrietta Rasmussen Christensen. During her school years she attended eleven schools in northern Utah and southern Idaho. Her working years, prior to marriage, included working as a maid for wealthy families, clerking at W.T. Grants, and sewing at the Quinn Garment Company.
Edna and Norris O. Wirick were married June 17, 1939. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on May 7, 1941.
Norris and Edna moved into the old tiny family home at 1443 Adams in 1941, first as renters, then as owners. From the time they were married they planned to have six children. The family remembers many special family activities: picnics at Monte Cristo, Logan Canyon, Lorin Farr Park, and visits to Lagoon, the Salt Lake Zoo, the Bear River Bird Refuge, and vacations in California.
Edna loved Norris, the Gospel, the Utah Jazz, her children, cooking, Ye Lion's Den Restaurant, family pets, people, San Diego, embroidery, the Primary, sucking ice chips, gardening, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Pepsi, telephone calls, ice cream, the "Price is Right," flowers especially roses, Idaho Spud candy bars, garden ripe tomatoes, giving and sharing, boxing matches, the color aqua, hummingbirds, going for car rides, and Utah Noodle Parlor.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she anxiously served, for forty years, in various callings in the Primary organization.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, Michael O. (LouAnn), Boise ID; Dennis W. (Melanie), Marriott-Slaterville; Steven K. (Judy), North Ogden; Susan A., Boise ID; Kim A. (Neal) Johnson, Perry; N. Randy (Joy), Willard, her 26 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband Norris, and her son David L. (Susan F.), and a grandson, Floyd Andrew Wirick.
A special "thanks" to the staff at Aspen Care Center. They cared for Norris for about three years. Edna had been a resident at Aspen Care since February, 2004. The tender loving care of the staff at the center provided a wonderful "home" for Norris and Edna.
