Edward J. White
"Grandpa"

HUNTSVILLE - On May 5, 1913 in New York City, Edward Joseph White was born to Joseph and Anna White. He passed away on May 3, 2005 surrounded by his loving family.

Edward married Mary V. Crummey on September 19, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York. They were blessed with five sons and two daughters.

Edward worked on Wall Street and Brewster International Aircraft Co. He also played minor league baseball for the Brooklyn Dodger Organization. He was an officer during World War II serving in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He was stationed at the Utah General Depot in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He accepted a position as a civilian in the Depot's Engineering Division that same year.

Apart from a short stint in the Chief of Engineer's Office in Washington, DC, Ed worked for the Defense Depot Ogden until his retirement in 1973, making Utah his family's home. Thanks Dad. He also retired from the Utah State Liquor Control Commission.

Edward was a devout member of the Catholic Church where he volunteered and held many church positions. He was most proud of being a Eucharistic Minister at both St. James and St. Florence parishes. He was involved in scouting and Little League Baseball. He was also a very big part of his grandchildren's lives, which included being a leader in the North Ogden Junior Posse. It was said he was the best tractor driver around. The Posse members as well as their parents affectionately referred to him as "Grandpa".

He is survived by his wife Mary of Huntsville; daughters Mary Anne (Roger) Fletcher, Huntsville; Kathleen (Samuel) Johnson, Houston, TX; sons Tomas White, Ixtapa, Mexico; and Dan White of Ogden; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren who all adored him! He was preceded in death by his sons Edward, Billy and Jimmy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Edward's name to Hearts for Hospice. It is with great gratitude to them we make this request.
