Eldon Leonard Haag

–

Ogden, UT

Pleasant View - Eldon L. Haag passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2012, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. His passing during the Christmas season seems more than appropriate as it was his favorite time of year. He fully enveloped, displayed and taught unconditional love for all humanity. Those who knew our father would know this to be true...
He was born on May 8th 1933 to Walter and Amy Phillips Haag, in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He was raised and attended school in American Fork, Utah. In 1954, he was called and served an LDS Mission to Central American. Returning home he attended BYU, studying Christian History and Political Science. He was also the president of the Debate Team, Phi Alpha Theta Fraternity and the Mormon History Association. His time at BYU would eventually lend itself to him becoming the well-respected teacher and orator many knew him to be. He graduated with highest honors earning a Master's Degree.
He was employed by the LDS church educational system for 39 years. He had assignments in Blanding, Provo and Salt Lake City, Utah and in Southern California. He was a devoted teacher at Weber State Institute of Religion for22 years, and most recently, wrote publications at the Church Office Building.
On August 23, 1957, he married Vivian Morin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised six adoring children. His family was the light of his life, as he was theirs. An avid reader and a lover of both history and mystery, his insatiable appetite for books and storytelling amused his children and grandchildren with tales of magic, compassion, and love. There truly was no better place than Daddy's/Papa's lap.
His affinity for travel was deep, and he was blessed to able to wander the globe, all the while appreciating the scenery surrounding him. Family vacations to the Oregon Coast were his particular favorite; it is where he loved and longed to be.
Those close to Eldon were lucky enough to experience his playful sense of humor. Endless laughter filled the room when he was present. To his family's delight, the memories of Eldon will be associated with levity, happiness and nurturing.
Eldon is survived by his wife Vivian, six children, Gia (Bill) Buck, Stephanie (Eric) Stone, Kimberly (Ron) Monroe, Lara E. Haag, Michael (Nicholas) Haag-Jahsman, Cami Moss (Jason Christensen), eight grandchildren and two and a half great -grandchildren. He is also survived by his youngest brother Max (Cindy) Haag and special family friend, Gryson "Sonny".
The family wishes express their deep gratitude to his wonderful caregivers and nurses; Tammy, Amy, Crystal, Lee and Randy. Also a special thanks to Jordan. The dedication you all showed to our Papa means the world to us.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2012 at the Pleasant View 12th Ward, 896 West Pleasant View Drive. The family will meet with friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
