Ellis K Butler
Our beloved father and grandfather, Ellis K. Butler, 91, of Harrisville, Utah died of cancer on July 31, 2015 in North Logan. He was born September 5, 1923 in Ogden to Harvey J and Mary Van Kampen Butler. He grew up on the family farm on West 12th Street and married Ruth Wade on November 25, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. She died December 16, 2012 after 70 years of marriage.
They moved first to Kuna and then Nampa, Idaho, where he spent most of his working years as a lineman for Idaho Power. They provided a loving home for 6 children where music was always a big part of home life. He and Ruth rendered much service in sharing their musical gifts as their voices were blended as beautifully as was their love for each other.
He was proud of his children's achievements and he sacrificed to provide educational opportunities for them. His life was guided by his love for the Savior in service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Ruth served a Family History Mission in Salt Lake City, and they also served as ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple. He was a quiet man of few words, but his unselfish service to others spoke volumes about his character. After retirement, he and Ruth moved to Harrisville to be closer to family.
He loved the outdoors with camping and hunting bringing great pleasure. Although he got skunked last year, he shot his last elk the year before at age 89. He kept his yard and a garden until this year and was always generous in sharing the harvest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, one granddaughter and a son-in-law. He is survived by 3 brothers and by his children: Kathy (David Coppin), Marilyn (Larry Jacobson), Wade (Wanda Ericson), Paul (Jeanine Squires), Eileen (Blaine Nay-deceased), and Scott (Helen Williams); 27 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, where visitation will be held prior to services from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be at Ben Lomond Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LDS Missionary fund.
