Ellis Eugene Richman
BRIGHAM CITY - Ellis Eugene Richman, 96, passed away December 13, 2010, in Brigham City, UT.
Ellis was born March 31, 1914, on the family farm in Paradise, UT, the oldest of five children to William Sinfield and Elizabeth Norris Richman. The family farm, now owned by nephew Greg Richman was honored during Utah's 1996 centennial celebration as being family owned for more than 100 years. Ellis worked hard on the farm during his growing years and was often herding sheep alone in the summer pastures in his pre-teen years. Later, he was the cook at sheep camp.
Ellis attended local schools in Paradise and met Ellen Harriet Bickmore at a community dance. They were married October 26, 1937, on Ellen's birthday. They moved to Brigham City in 1940. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on March 10, 1944. Ellis was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ellis enlisted in the US Navy serving aboard ship during WWII and was called to active duty again for the Korean Conflict. He was an active member of the VFW for many years serving as color guard at ceremonies for military burials.
Ellis worked various construction jobs but happily settled in at Fife Construction and Rock Products Company for many years. A loyal employee, he spoke often of the Fife construction family and was humbled by the trust they placed in him. Retiring at age 65 Ellis and Ellen purchased an RV and spent time traveling. He stated his favorite time was the 21 winters they spent in St George, UT.
As Ellen's health failed, Ellis became her full-time care giver tending to household chores along with keeping his yard the prettiest on the block. His loving care extended her life by many years and after 72-years of marriage, Ellen passed away this spring. Ellen will be waiting on the other side along with Ellis's sisters, Phoebe and Leanore, and brother DaWayne.
The family wishes to thank Dad's good friend, Janet Tanner, who tended to his health needs, Alpine Health Care, Dr. Markeson, his wonderful neighbors, granddaughter Cassee Harper, and the LDS 11th Ward for their helpful assistance.
Ellis is survived by son, Jerald (Faye) Richman, Roy, and daughter, Elizabeth (Ray) Taylor, Blackfoot, ID, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, bother, Lowell Richman, Wellsville, along with many step-grandchildren and dozens of adoring nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City 11th Ward Chapel, 506 S. 200 E., Brigham City.
