Elma LaRue Johnson Crook

Elma LaRue Johnson Crook, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away March 5, 2025 at the age of 91.

LaRue was born November 15, 1933 in Afton, Wyoming, the second of four children and only daughter of Charles H and Elma S. Christiansen Johnson. Her dad was a farmer and sheep rancher and her mom taught elementary school. She learned to work hard and was given lots of responsibility at a young age. She enjoyed the association of friends and family in he Star Valley area.

LaRue attended Utah State College where she met Kay Madsen Crook. They were married the following year on September 4, 1952. They moved frequently with his career over the next several years and added four children to the family. They eventually settled in Boise, Idaho. She worked as an elementary school librarian there for 25 years. Upon retirement they moved to Perry, Utah to be closer to family.

LaRue was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints until health challenges made it difficult to attend. The church was an important part of the family's lives wherever they lived. She served in many callings, most frequently with the Young Women. Together with Kay, she served two service missions, worked in the Brigham City Temple and did large amounts of extraction and indexing work.

LaRue was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed.

LaRue was preceded in death by two sons, David and Phillip. She is survived by her husband, Kay; daughter Carolyn (Phil); son Kevin (Denise); six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be held on March 22, 2025, at the Perry 8th Ward Building, 685 West 2250 South, Perry, Utah, at 11:00 a.m. A Viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. also at the church. Interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.

The family expresses deep gratitude to the wonderful friends, neighbors and ward members for their love, concern and support.
