Elva Caldwell
Elva Lucile Spilker Caldwell, our mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Friday, October 2, 2015. She has returned to her Heavenly Father after a life of service and love. "There's my Angel" or "This is like a dream come true" are some of the many endearing phrases one might expect to hear when visiting with Elva. She adored her family and always took the opportunity to let them know how much they meant to her. Memories with her will be forever cherished. Her example of striving to live a Christ like life will leave a legacy cherished by her family.
Elva was born to Henry and Alice Spilker on July 2, 1930 in Salt Lake City. She met Ned on a blind date, they married in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple on January 3, 1949. Together they raised six children.
Elva was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many capacities including relief society president, young women president, teacher, and visiting teacher. Elva worked in the family history name extraction program for many years and worked as a nursery leader at the age of 72. She served a full time mission to Australia in 1994 and also worked in the Ogden Temple in her later years.
Elva has always been active in various clubs and been president of several. She was named "clubwoman of the year". For the past 20 years, she has had several people she helped care for, until she required care herself.
Elva and Ned enjoyed snowmobiling, pinochle, and bridge; they had many friends that they thoroughly enjoyed. The last several years Elva looked forward to her Friday game nights, with her girlfriends. Some of Elva's greatest joys were feeding and loving family and friends. It was impossible to step into her home without being offered a treat. She also enjoyed traveling; but she loved visiting her kids and grandkids even more! If you were a child and lucky enough to spend the night at Elva's you would wake up to find the candy fairy had visited... Magical! We love you, mom and we'll miss you a lot!!!
Elva is survived by her children: Gordon (Karen) Caldwell, Perry; Larry (Darlene) Caldwell, Mantua; Alden (Carla)Caldwell, Fruit Heights; Craig (LeAnna) Caldwell, Kaysville; Gwen(Ronnie) Bradshaw, Kennewick, WA; and Trudy (Blaine) Jensen, Queen Creek, AZ; 30 grand-children and 65 great-grandchildren; brothers: Melvin (Christa) Spilker, Donald (Rene) Spilker, Raymond (Janet) Spilker, and Frank (Kathy) Spilker, and brother-in-law Richard Fellows.
Elva was preceded in death by her husband Ned A. Caldwell, granddaughter Mikelle Caldwell, and sister Ellen Fellows.
