Emily Arlene Shupe Lucas Obituary (1921 - 2010)

Emily Arlene Lucas OGDEN - Emily Arlene (Shupe) Lucas, 88, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on January 13, 2010 of heart failure. She was born in North Ogden, Utah, on May 14, 1921, to Parley Grant and Luella (Chadwick) Shupe. She was the 8th of 14 children growing up in North Ogden, and graduated from Weber High School. She married George William Lucas on May 24, 1940 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 21, 1941. She retired June 1983 from Ogden City Schools Lunch Program, working most of her years at Ogden High School. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in various ward and stake positions. In her younger years she picked strawberries, cherries and beans, corrected school papers, did babysitting and house cleaning, and worked at the North Ogden Cannery. She enjoyed her home, the outdoors, camping, and traveling with her family. She was a talented seamstress, did needle point, enjoyed crocheting and was known for her beautiful work on baby blankets and afghans. She and George spent many hours together hand-tying beautiful rugs. She truly loved taking care of her beautiful roses, watching the hummingbirds at her kitchen window and living next to the beautiful mountains. There was a soft spot in her heart for "Old Ben". Her greatest love and joy was her husband and family. She loved to have her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren visit. Grandpa George and Grandma Arlene developed a special closeness and love with each one; and especially enjoyed the family get-togethers. Their home was always open to family and friends. Her love and unselfish concern for others was her greatest trademark. She was truly a heavenly angel. She is survived by her children William K. (Annette) Lucas of Hooper, Utah; Linda J. (Gregory) Banks of Arvada, Colo.; Robert B. (Susan) Lucas of Logan, Utah; 9 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and her brothers, LeGrande, Verle, Bob, Kay, and Monty. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers - Cyril, Bill, Owen, and Russell, four sisters - Maxine, Margaret, Janice, and Beatrice, and one great-great grandson. The family wishes to express a very special thanks to Dr. Gary Christensen, IHC Hospice nurses Heidi, Robyn and Bobbie, and visiting teachers Rowene and Wilma. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 19th at 11a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel in Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd. Friends and family may call at the mortuary on Monday, January 18th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Tuesday from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery.
