Ened Louise Allen Obituary (1922 - 2002)

Ened Louise Malan Allen Ened was born on January 18, 1922 in Ogden, UT and died in Santa Rosa, CA on August 17, 2002 at the age of 80. She was the daughter of Parley Quince Malan and Delia Terry Malan. She loved to play tennis until rheumatic fever struck, but it did not stop her from excelling in her studies. She graduated from Ogden High School and then went on to get an Associates degree from Weber Academy with plans to pursue a career in nursing. She met a lonely serviceman right off the train in Ogden, asking for directions to the USO. His name was Stanley. They later met at the USO dance where he invited her to join him for a bite to eat after the dance. He ordered two hamburgers and two cups of coffee. She immediately told him about section 89 of the Doctrine and Covenants and he was interested not only in her conviction but the principles she stood for. After missing the bus back to Hill Air Force Base, she borrowed her father's car and took him there, leaving him with a copy of the Book of Mormon. He was converted to the gospel as well as Ened and was baptized by her father in three months. They were married about a week later on January 11th, 1945, in her parents home in Ogden. The following week, he left for Brazil where he was stationed. It was a year later that he returned and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1946. My brother Kirk was born to them in 1947 while they lived in Ogden. I was born three years later in Newfoundland and a stillborn son David was born in Biloxi, MS. Being a military wife meant that Mom had to be very independent in the early raising of her boys. She went to beauty school so that she could support us in the event that anything happened to Dad while he served overseas in Korea. Mom and Dad were stationed in several bases across the country. They served in the church wherever they went. From places like Newfoundland, CA to South Carolina, GA, MS, San Francisco and Bermuda, where they opened a branch of the church. They ended up in Novato, CA where Dad retired in 1963. They moved to Rohnert Park in 1978. During their time in the service, Mom adopted many a lonely serviceman. Every Sunday Mom would make a large dinner not knowing who would show up. We always had plenty and no one ever went home hungry on Sunday. She made the best lemon meringue pie and it was so good that as a little boy I had Mom change my birthday cake to lemon meringue pie. She was also known for her great baked beans. Mom served in whatever callings she was needed. She served as a Relief Society President, Primary President, and music chorister. Her favorite calling was Sunday school teacher to a class of ten year olds, many of whom later served as Bishops. Mom and Dad served a mission in Jacksonville, FL in 1987 and upon their return were called to serve as ordinance workers in the Oakland Temple, where she served for more than ten years. Mom was also an expert seamstress. She could make anything and make anything fit anyone. She was extremely thrifty and could upholster used furniture to made it look new. I can't tell you how many bridal gowns, bridesmaid dresses and prom gowns she made. She could make or alter anything even at the last minute, never charging anyone a penny. She was so willing to share her talent and just wanted to help and be of service. Mom's greatest joy was in her kids and grandkids. She never gave up on any of us no matter how rebellious they seemed to be at times. She set the standard and absolutely stood by it. She was straight as an arrow in her commitment to the Lord, His gospel and the covenants she had made. I loved her simple, unwavering testimony and the service she always rendered cheerfully. Beloved sister of Terry Malan and Laurlie Twede both of Salt Lake City, UT and Don Malan of Ogden, UT Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Bernice Malan Schneiter, Donna Malan Edward; and one brother, L. Pearse Malan.
