ERMINE NELLIE STERN DUFFIN

CLINTON - Ermine Nellie Stern Duffin passed away January 1, 2003.

She was born June 17, 1916 to Clara Johnson and John Dulan Stern in Westphalia, Kansas.

At a young age, her family moved to the Sunnyside, WA area, where she grew up. She attended college at Pullman WA and worked as a stenographer and bookkeeper for the city of Sunnyside for 14 years.

Ermine married Leonard Oren Duffin April 8, 1942 in Sunnyside. They were parents of a son Daryl J. (Bonnie) of North Salt Lake (now serving a mission in Reno, NV) and daughter, Lorna (LeGrand) Leigh (of Clinton and formerly of Plain City) with 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and two more on the way. She also leaves behind a special cousin, Georgia Clinger, Reno, NV and several nieces and nephews and many close friends.

She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1958 and the family was sealed together in the St. George Temple in 1960. Since that time she has been active in her wards in a variety of callings. She served as a faithful visiting teacher until a year before she died.

She diligently worked on family history and genealogy for nearly 40 years and attended the Ogden Temple almost weekly until her health declined.

Ermine and Leonard served an LDS mission in Alabama and Florida from June 1974 to December 1975. They have resided in Clinton, Utah since 1977.

She was known for her prize-winning pies, which she shared with families moving in to Clinton for those that helped her.

She also made quilts for each of her grandchildren and many new babies and newlyweds in the area. Her lifetime was spent in service for her neighbors and family and often she gave everything she had.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Stone and Edyth Smith and brother John Stern. Her husband died November 14, 1989.
