Ross Olsen Obituary (1926 - 2012)

Ernest "Ross" (Ole) Olsen BRIGHAM CITY - Ernest "Ross" (Ole) Olsen, 85, passed away April 21, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 10, 1926 in Garland, Utah to Ernest Alonzo and Pearl Hansen Olsen. After graduating from Bear River High School he joined the Army and served during WWII. He married his eternal sweetheart, Leah Joan Jensen, on Friday, the 13th of May, 1949 in the Logan Temple. Ross and Joan were just about to celebrate 63 wonderful years of marriage. Together this year they planned to tour the LDS Conference Center and attend the new Brigham City Temple. He retired from Hill AFB with over 30 years of service. He was an active member of the LDS church and magnified callings such as Elder's Quorum, Young Men's, and Sunday School President and also served in Bishoprics. He enjoyed many years after retirement driving the bus for Pioneer Nursing Home. He was an avid "Rock Hound", and we still have the rocks to prove it. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, camping, and gardening tomatoes in the "east forty". The words that best describe Ross are kind, gentle, loving, and friendly. Family was at the center of everything he did. His eyes lit up whenever his little ones arrived. His home has always been a haven for family, friends, and neighbors. He never met a person that he couldn't talk to, and found friends wherever he travelled. Ross is survived by his sweetheart, Joan, and children: Barbara (Ron) OcaAa, Layton; David (Alicia) Olsen, Mantua; Jan (Dennis) Rasmussen, Corinne; Jody (Craig) Woodland, Brigham; Kim (Audrey) Olsen, Brigham; and Douglas (Lori) Olsen, Santa Clara, CA; and brother, John D. Olsen, Pleasant View; brother-in-law David Jensen, Brigham City; 18 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Margaret Ficklin, Doris Cazier, and GaeNell Jensen, and one grandson, BJ. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City Central Ward Chapel, 506 S. 200 E, Brigham, City. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E. and Wednesday from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be at the Mantua Cemetery.
