Ernesto "Ernie" Juan Gonzales Obituary (1958 - 2017)

Ernesto Gonzales Ernesto "Ernie" Juan Gonzales, loving husband, father, friend, and papa passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Thursday, April 20th. He is survived by his wife, Gayleen; six children: Allan (Tara) Devries, Bobbie Bosgieter, Robert (Krystal) Devries, Gayleen Ticay, Daniel (Lale) Devries, and Ty (Michelle) Devries; 21 grandchildren; and Siblings Patricia, Phyllis, Elena, Remijio, and Romolo. Ernie was born in Ogden, Utah and lived in Ogden all of his life. He graduated from Ogden High School, and worked for the Internal Revenue Service for over 30 years, serving as a Union Representative for much of his career. Ernie met the love of his life at the IRS where they both worked, even proposing to her there in the cafeteria. Ernie and Gayleen were happily married for 21 amazing years. During that time, he found joy in riding his motorcycle, camping, 4-wheeling, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was a very active and dedicated member of the Genesis Project Christian church, helping with everything from meetings to security, and he left a deep impression on everyone who knew him. In his younger years, Ernie played in The Little Big Band with Dickey Martinez and other close friends where he developed a deep love of music. Ernie was ever the practical joker, and was always the first to come up with a zinger and make everyone laugh. There was never a time when he was not doing his best to put a smile on someone's face. His favorite line upon meeting anyone was, "Do you want some candy, little girl?" Papa Ernie was the cornerstone of his family and made sure he played a huge role in the lives of all of his children and grandchildren. He instantly embraced the role of father and grandfather upon marrying Gayleen, and strived to always be loving and dedicated to his family. There was never any question that he had taken this load of children in to be his own. He rose to the task, loving, supporting, and even disciplining them accordingly. Ernie was known and loved by so many, you couldn't take him anywhere without running into someone he knew. He always had a joke to tell or a story to share, and after meeting him you were never the same. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister. Services will be held on Monday, April 24th, 2017 at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah 84404. There will be a public viewing from 1:00pm to 1:45pm, with a funeral service beginning at 2:00pm.
