Ersel Parley Platt Obituary (1911 - 2006)

Ersel Parley Platt (95) left this life November 16, 2006 holding hands with his sweetheart Erma, the love of his life of 72 A 1/2 years. He was surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and peacefully joined his waiting mother, Laura C. Garner, father, James H. Platt, brothers, James, Lawrence, Norman and sisters, Irene L. Geilman and Lila Julia Lutz, who have preceded him to be with their Father in Heaven. Survived by a sister Lucille E. Wilson. He was born to loving parents on September 19, 1911, to James H. Platt and Laura C. Garner. He grew up on Wilson Lane in Ogden, Utah. He married the Jewel of his life, Erma Summerill Platt, on May 7th, 1934 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. How fortunate he was to share more than 72 years of marriage with the woman he loved. Three of God's children called him "Dad", Janette P. Trottier (Robert), David E. Platt (Elaine), both of Bountiful and Stephen P. Platt (Rosemary) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who added to his legacy with 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. His was a life of dedication and service in his Heavenly Father's kingdom. He served his Mission in England. In the Liberty Ward in Salt Lake he was one of the Seven Presidents of the Seventy, Stake Missionary, President of the MIA, Senior Scout Leader and teacher. In the Ogden 41st Ward he was again one of the Seven Presidents of the Seventy and a teacher of young men. He served as Executive Secretary to his Bishop and was called to the Stake High Council in the East Ogden Stake. November 24th, 1969, he was called as an Ordinance Worker in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple for two years until the Ogden Temple was dedicated. He was transferred to the Ogden Temple and continued as an Ordinance Worker until ordained as a Sealer on March 2nd, 1986. He served in the Temples of the Lord 13 years as an Ordinance Worker and 16 years as a temple Sealer. Ersel sealed together many of his own family members for eternity. He performed thousands of sealing ordinances. He loved the temple and served continually for 29 years. Ersel was equally successful in his business career for 35 years with Safeway Stores. He started as an Apprentice Meat Cutter but quickly rose through the ranks as Meat Cutter, Store Manager, Training Supervisor and the District Manager of the Salt Lake District. Ersel was an avid sportsman, accomplished at fly-fishing, dead shot at birds-on-the-wing, bowler, golfer, star catcher on his high school baseball team and loved to watch all spectator sports. His was a full and rewarding life. He was a great example to all who knew him in life.
