Ethel Lenore Markeson passed away January 2, 2011surrounded by her loving family.
She was born In Thief River Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Thales and Lillian Aasland on June 9, 1921. They moved to Superior, Wisconsin in 1924 and there she graduated from high school with honors. She applied and was accepted into the nursing program at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota. She graduated in 1942.
Ethel met Robert Markeson in high school and dated him in nursing school. They married in 1942. Bob joined the navy in 1942 and Ethel followed him to boot camp in Virginia and later California. Ethel was a barber during this time until Bob returned from the service in 1945.
After discussions with his parents it was decided that they would open a grocery and deli in Ashland Wisconsin. After 4 years, Bob's father developed cancer and they decided to sell the business and have Bob go to college. While in Ashland, Ethel had three children. When Bob graduated with his chemical engineering degree they moved to Indiana. While there they had one more child. Ethel moved to Brigham City in 1959, when Bob began working at Thiokol. Ethel began working as a nurse at Intermountain Indian School a short time afterwards, where she worked until she retired in 1985.
Ethel loved playing bridge and golfing. She especially loved the ten winters that she and Bob enjoyed in Mazatlan, Mexico. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also loved to talk and tell stories about her many life experiences. Her infectious smile and laughter will be missed by all. Ethel's warmth and sense of humor touch those around her and brightened the lives of those who loved her.
