Ethelyn Joy Parry Hodge Obituary (1928 - 2017)

Ethelyn "Joy" Parry Hodge (89), who was born on September 5, 1928 in Cedar City, Utah, passed away peacefully with her children nearby on September 19, 2017 of natural causes. She was the youngest of six daughters born to Isaac William Parry and Cora Ethel White. She married LaMar A. Hodge in Ogden, Utah on February 20, 1948 and their vows were later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 59 years until dad passed away on September 15, 2007. Mom grew up in Cedar City and Ogden, Utah. She attended elementary school in Cedar City and then attended Mount Fort Junior High and Ogden High schools. Joy graduated with an associate's degree from Weber Academy. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and faithfully served her Heavenly Father. In mom's senior years, she enjoyed being a long time member of DUP. She also enjoyed being with her family, friends, reading, knitting, watercolor painting, RVing, camping, fishing and flowers. She worked at the Navy Supply Depot and Hill AFB until 1975 when she received a medical retirement. She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Sharon H. Burke (John) of Colorado Springs, CO; Bruce P. Hodge (Karen) of Victor, ID; Rodney A. Hodge (Lisa) of Syracuse, UT and Vickie H. Illum (Douglas) of West Haven, UT. She has 14 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings, one grandson and two great-granddaughters. Special thanks to Doug and Vickie Illum for taking care of mom in their home for four plus years. Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at Myers Roy Mortuary 5865 South 1900 West Roy, Utah. There will be a viewing held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and prior to the services from 9:30 - 10:30 am at the Mortuary. Interment will be at the Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch.
