Elmer Fredrick Orton Obituary (1918 - 2006)

Elmer F. Orton "The Can Man" CLEARFIELD - Elmer Fredrick Orton passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, December 4, 2006 at Chancellor Gardens, due to complications from cancer. He was born September 8, 1918 in a little farm house in Pleasant View to Hyrum Fredrick and Margaret Johns Orton. Elmer graduated from Weber High School in 1936. He worked at Boyle Furniture where he met his wife Shirley Swenson. They were married March 25, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home for the next 57 years in Clearfield, where they raised seven children. He was an active member of the Clearfield Seventh Ward. He enjoyed walking and going to the Temple. Elmer worked at Boyle Furniture for 30 years. He worked at R. C. Willey's for 17 years, until he retired at age 72. He then helped his son Mark with Melodi's Pest Control until he was 85. He is survived by his wife Shirely (Swenson) Orton, Clearfield, UT; his children: Linda Carlson, Soda Springs, ID: Roger ( Susan) Orton, Rancho Cordova, CA; Nina (Kevin) Barton, Nampa, ID; Sharon Bowen, Ogden, UT; Marcia (Gleelyn) Bateman, Syracuse, UT; Mark (Kathleen) Orton, West Point, UT; nineteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Hyrum Fredrick Orton and Margaret Johns Orton, a daughter Susan Orton and grandson Brody Jay Bateman. A special thanks to the staff of Alpine Hospice Jill, Susan, Tyler, Courtney and Miller. Also a special thanks to the staff of Chancellor Gardens. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 7, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Myers Mortuary in Roy, 5865 South 1900 West. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
