HOOPER - Eugene Devere Workman, 70 (known fondly by those who love him as Gener) was surrounded by family and friends as he passed from this life into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on December 18, 2007.
Born on April 2, 1937 in Eureka, Utah to Ferris and Edna Workman, Gener is survived by his wife, Helen Harms, Hooper; Brothers Leland and James, Oregon, David (Ginny), New Jersey; Sons Michael, Jeff and Jay, Oregon; Step-Sons John (Gina) Harms, Brigham City, Garry (Susan) Harms, Roy, Aaron Harms, Hooper, Brian (Joyce) Harms, Clearfield, Greg (Debbie) Harms, South Ogden; and 19 Grand/Great-Grand Children, having been preceded in death by his Parents, Daughter Amy, Brother Floyd, and Sisters Gayle James and Nedra McNamara.
Throughout a lifetime devoted to hard work and family, Gener served honorably in the U.S. Military, and occupations included long-haul trucking, roofer, mechanic, glass repair and maintenance expert (retired), with roles as Grandpa and Great-Grandpa his most cherished.
Gener was an accomplished chef, having earned numerous awards with Chili Cook-offs as well as charity drives in support of finding cures for Cystic Fibrosis. Gener had many talents and was quite gifted at creating tools and parts and fixing things in a manner described as brilliant and ingenious. The original Mr. Fix It's workshop has grown quiet now with his tools laid down after losing a courageously fought fierce but short battle with cancer at McKay Dee Hospital.
Gener's is fondly remembered for his big heart and lack of selfishness, always prepared to help anyone in need, air up a bike tire or amuse those around him (especially children) with his gift of telling tales. Those who came to know him truly loved him and he will be dearly missed.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Hooper City Cemetery, 5290 South 6300 West. Family will greet friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West.
