Perry, Utah
Wow! What a lady!
Evelyn Rogina Doussard was born on a beautiful day, June 13, 1939, in Great Falls Montana. Her brother Leon would be born 4 years later. Both were born to Frank and Florence Rogina.
Frank operated a dump truck and followed the construction business wherever it took him. This earned Evelyn the nickname "Feetie," for she was always on the move with her dad going from state to state, hauling gravel, and dirt for roadways and many government projects.
The family finally settled down in Manila, Utah when she was 15. She attended and graduated from Manila High School. It wasn't long before her wandering feet carried her to the big city of Chicago as a reporter, which she did enjoy, but found it wasn't the life she wanted, growing up as a country girl. She came back to Manila, met and married Sergeant David Larsen, and they were stationed in the Netherlands for the next four and a half years.
She loved to travel and saw many historical wonders and countless countries. She even passed through "Checkpoint Carlie".
She worked at the Air Force Base Exchange, which started her career in government work. Her family returned to the U.S. and retired in New Mexico before moving back to Utah. After 12 years of marriage, they divorced and she met James Doussard. Mom continued her government employment, working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Department of Fish and Game before settling down with the Bureau of Reclamation as a contract specialist.
She loved animals, nature, and poetry. She even wrote and published her own book of poetry and short stories, relating to real life events she witnessed and grew up in.
First and foremost, she loved to travel and wanted to see it all. Her husband, Jim, felt the same way and they made an idyllic pair. She saw many wonders with her husband. From Alaska to Antarctica with nothing left out in between!
Jim passed away in 2014 and Mom moved up to Perry to be close to her 2 sons, Todd and Bernie Lamb. Her new interest turned to fossil hunting and rock hounding. Let me tell you, at 86 years of age, that lady could walk and hike like nobody's business! She would take her walking stick and an hour later come back with ten pounds of "pretty rocks" she found, stuffed in every pocket and a cloth bag so she could carry more.
Mom was our anchor in the turbulent sea of life. So many stories I wish I had the time to tell. She loved everyone she met and you could always count on an honest answer. She leaves behind many dear and cherished friends and two sons who miss her dearly!
Aloha au ia oe, e ku"u mama.
