Fern Barnard McFarland Wheelwright Click here to listen to Funeral Recording Fern Barnard McFarland Wheelwright, 92 years old, passed away at her daughter's home in Riverdale Utah on December 21, 2014 of causes incident to age. Mom was born as the only daughter on March 16, 1922 in Ogden, Utah to Leora J. and Christopher T. Barnard. She had one brother, Wayne Barnard. Mom graduated from Ogden High School on May 29, 1940. Mom married T. Glen McFarland on July 20, 1940 in Farmington, Utah. They were able to take their children to be sealed as a family in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were later divorced. In November of 1966 mom married her high school sweetheart Floyd Wheelwright. She was preceded in death by her husband, her Mother, Father and one daughter. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While living in the Uintah Ward she enjoyed being a teacher in the Primary and Sunday School. She served in the Relief Society Presidency for several years and loved working with her sisters providing for those in need. Mom was one of those special daughters of God who loved to serve and make others happy in spite of her own needs. She continued being active in the Church wherever she lived. Mom was a member of the National March of Dimes and was awarded for extra ordinary service. She enjoyed golfing, hiking, being outdoors, and sewing all of her children's clothes in her early married years. Cooking was one of her specialties and all of her children, family and friends were the beneficiaries of fine eating. She loved our farm and was even involved in milking the cows, feeding chickens, and all sorts of farm activities. However we don't think she liked getting on horses. She loved to play the piano and loved singing. As a teenager she was invited many times to sing at different functions such as weddings and parties. She had a beautiful voice. Because of an accident involving a hat pin being ingested into her lungs, she no longer could control her voice as she would like, but loved singing to her family. We were very lucky being her audience. Mom owned and operated Jewel Magic and loved serving those who came through her shop doors. Mom was one of those special daughters of God. She woke every morning as if it were the grandest day of her life, no matter how difficult the previous day had been, filled with happiness and love. In mom's later years she loved to chat with people and she kept that same wonderful attitude; mom never met a person that didn't become her best friend. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by: Children - LouAnn Anderson (Scott), Kathy DeVries (Deceased) (Todd), Glenna Surrage (Val), Roger L. McFarland (Nanette Manning), Nancy Burton (Dan), R. Kelly McFarland, Scott T. McFarland (Stacy Christiansen), Pam Loomis (Dan), Todd Wheelwright (Lisa Spinden); one Brother, Wayne Barnard (Elaine Child). Also survived by many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren and nephews and nieces; approximately 150 in all. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Riverdale Stake Center, 4000 Parker Dr., Riverdale. Family and friends may call prior to the service from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Washington Heights Memorial Park.
