Florence L. Gallagher
Ogden - After leading a long and rich life, Florence L. Gallagher passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Legacy House in Ogden, UT.
Flo was born August 23, 1915 to Clarence Howard and Margaret Elizabeth Byers Lovelace in Hawley, PA. She was an only child, raised and educated in both Hawley and Scranton. As a young woman she was an accomplished rider and joined an equestrian club where she met Edward G. Gallagher. They were married on July 3, 1941.
During the time her husband served in the U.S. Army, the family was stationed in several locations, both stateside and abroad, where she forged many lasting friendships that have endured through the years. Flo loved to travel, especially enjoying her time in Germany, embracing the adventure and beauty of Europe.
In 1961 she embarked on a career in retail at the Bon Marche that spanned 20 years. She was a buyer for several departments over the years, and often modeled in fashion shows sponsored by the store.
After retirement Flo became an avid golfer, a decent bowler, and a skilled bridge player. She had an artistic flair that became apparent through her work in Banka, producing many lovely works of art.
To say that Flo loved baseball is an understatement. She was a die-hard Atlanta Braves fan, but would follow every game during the season no matter who was playing.
She was a long-time member of the Elim Lutheran Church, rarely missing a service in over 50 years.
Florence was beautiful, fun-loving and adventurous, with a wicked sense of humor to the delight of her friends. She possessed a unique combination of style, grace, and a generous nature that attracted people throughout her lifetime.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother whose love and support formed the backbone of her family. Though she will be sorely missed her legacy lies in the admiration for an amazing woman that will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
Flo was preceded in death by her husband Ned, in 1960.
Surviving are her son, Ed Gallagher, TX; daughter, Margie Porter (Roger), CA; grandson, Scott Gallagher (Courtney), TX; grandson, Patrick Gallagher; CA; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 31, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 W., Roy, UT. Friends and family may call on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and on Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.
