F. Maxine Hunter Thompson Obituary (1920 - 2009)

Florence Maxine Hunter Thompson Arizona - Maxine Thompson, 88, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 in Mesa, Arizona. She was born November 16, 1920 to Joseph Harold Hunter and Dorothy Elsie Owen in Ogden, Utah. She married Eldon Charlton Thompson on December 31, 1940 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. As a young girl she went to school during the day and worked in her father's malt shop in the evenings. She attended school in Ogden where she was a member of the first graduating class from Ogden High School. She worked for a number of years as an operator at the Bell Telephone Company. While her children were small, she worked, hand dipping chocolates, in her father's candy store. Later, when her children were all in school, she herself returned to night school, graduating from Weber State College with an LPN in nursing. She then work graveyard at the Roy Memorial Hospital so that she could be home during the day for her children. She was a member of the Adobe Villa LDS Ward in Mesa, Arizona. She is survived by her husband, Eldon, AZ; six children: Judy (Joe) Walton, UT; Dean (Evelyn) Thompson, CA; Joe (Nancy) Thompson, UT; Dixie (Melvin) Winterbottom, UT; Jeanel (Dann) Russell, UT; Dale (Marla) Thompson, CO; 34 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren; siblings: Cleone Hess and Lawrence Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson and great-granddaughter. At her request services will be held at Graveside at Aultorest Memorial Park, 836-36th St., Ogden, UT at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2009. Arrangements under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Ogden. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the LDS Mission Fund.
