Floyd Gustave Meyer
Floyd Gustave Meyer passed away on July 13, 2015 at his home surrounded by his wife and children. He and his twin brother Lloyd were born in Rigby, Idaho on August 29, 1927 to Gustave John Meyer and Lucy Irene Nilson. Their early arrival surprised the family and they were kept in an oven to stay warm. He always joked that he was "half baked."
His father's bee business kept the family moving to California, Idaho and eventually settling in Smithfield, Utah.
Floyd graduated from North Cache high school in 1945 at the end of World War II. At age 17 he entered the merchant marines. Shortly after he joined the army and went by ship to Japan for 13 months in the Army of Occupation. After his service he attended Utah State University. He then fulfilled a lifelong dream and with his twin brother served in the Swiss Austrian Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Once he returned home, he married the love of his life, Rae Jones in the Salt Lake City Temple. They had eight lovely children - 4 girls and 4 boys and eventually settled in Kanesville, Utah. They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
His professional life was spent in the honey business where he owned and operated the Rocky Mt. Honey Company for over 30 years.
Floyd was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a ward clerk, high councilor, bishop and patriarch. He and his wife Rae served missions together in Puerto Rico and Nigeria.
He is survived by his wife, Rae Jones and eight children Eve (Brad) Beus, Taft (Krystyn) Meyer, Phillip (Lorna) Meyer, Camille (Dennis) DeLoach, Paula (Jeffrey) Webber, Louis (Amy) Meyer, Sarah (David) Critchlow, and Matthew (Michelle) Meyer and 49 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren with two more on the way.
Also surviving are his siblings, Lloyd Meyer, Arlene (Dick) Keysor, Mildred Earl.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Delbert (Afton) Meyer, Melvin (Madge) Meyer, Verna Anderson, sister-in-law Eloise Meyer, and brother-in-law Claire Earl.
