Frances Gay (Clarke) Roney Obituary (1941 - 2017)

Frances "Fran" Roney, 76, peacefully left this earth on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 after suffering a long battle with illness including heart disease, stroke and lung cancer. The only child of Clinton Francis Clarke and Lillian Everett, Fran was born in Washington D.C. then grew up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where her mother's family was located. As a young adult, she moved south and lived most of her life along the Gulf Coast, making a final move to Utah in 2002, just before Katrina hit and devastated her beloved coastline. Fran was a tall command in a small package and she could let you know what she wanted with just a look. She loved watching classic movies, playing games around the kitchen table with friends and family, always had a crossword puzzle in progress and enjoyed being in the kitchen cooking new recipes. She dearly loved animals, especially dogs and they all loved her in return. She made everyone laugh with her animal stories including the time her husband kept what she termed a "viscous chicken" that had it in for her. But it didn't stop her from always having an animal friend or two in the house. Fran is preceded in death by both of her parents. She is survived by her husband, James Roney of Roy, Utah; and with her two daughters; oldest daughter, Andrea Spoehrer of Houston, Texas with granddaughter Sherri Garay (husband, Jimmy) and grandson Shannon Spoehrer - both of Houston, TX and her youngest daughter, Jelena Cantrell (husband, Terrance) of Roy, Utah with grandson David Russell Smith of Fort Madison, Iowa and granddaughter Shelena Semadeni (husband, Justin) of North Salt Lake, UT. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren. Flowers may be delivered to Roy Myers Mortuary on Tuesday April 4, 2017.
