Frederick Lewis Helms

BRIGHAM CITY - Frederick Lewis Helms passed away February 22, 2013 at his home. He left this world the same way he came in, naked and without teeth. He was born November 3, 1945 in Ogden, Utah, the son of William L. and Frieda Bade Helms.
Fred married Janis Dean September 11, 1970. Together they had three daughters, Heidi, Hilary and Heather. They later divorced. He and Sherrie Mendoza spent many years together. After they separated, he met his best friend and the love of his life, Ila Eastman. They were married November 20, 2010.
Fred served in the Air Force and worked as a Ranger for the Utah State Parks Service. He enjoyed rock hounding, photography and loved the music of Merle Haggard. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors and at his cabin with his family. He made friends with everybody. He loved all children and his four legged companions, Annie, Spotty and Fuzzy. If he wasn't singing to you, he was entertaining you with his stories.
Surviving are his wife, Ila Helms; daughters Heidi Allen and Hilary Hernandez; step-daughters: Stormi, Katrina and April; brothers: Paul Helms; Cliff (Norma) Helms; and sister, Nena (Jerry) Hansen. He was grandpa "derF" to a combined total of 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Heather; former son-in-law, Troy Allen; and brothers: Bill and Norm.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City, UT. Friends may call on Saturday from 12-12:50 p.m. at the Mortuary.
The family would like to thank the staff at the VA Hospital, especially Corrine, Robin and Tommy Banks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Myers Mortuary to help with funeral expenses.
