Friedegunde Bootz Childers Obituary (1938 - 2011)

Friedegunde (Bootz) Childers was born on March 23, 1938 in Weiler bei Bingen, Germany. It was a turbulent time in Germany (just before the beginning of WWII) and for the first seven years of her life she suffered daily under the harsh conditions of war-torn Germany. In spite of the war, she attended local schools and completed her studies in Home Economics. She passed away on October 3, 2011 at the Rocky Mountain Care Center.AA In 1959 she met her future husband and one year later they were married. Together they had four lovely children. After their marriage, the family spent the first seven of ten years in Germany close to her family. It was probably the happiest time of her life, raising her young family and caring for her new husband while he served in the Air Force.AA The family moved often after that first ten years and she accompanied her husband throughout the United States, Germany, and France. In August 1980 the family moved to Utah, where her husband retired from the Air Force in 1983. Friede was very happy in Utah. She loved to crochet and knit. She also loved to listen to classical music. In March of 2003 her daughter, Ramona, gave birth to her first grandson. From the time he was 6 weeks old until he entered school, Friede cared for Ben on an almost daily basis. This brought her great pleasure. Friede is survived by her husband, Leonard Joseph Childers, a son, Andreas Childers (Lori); a daughter, Denise Dugre (Mike); granddaughters, Nicole and Natalie Dugre; great granddaughter, Kairi Carnevale; a daughter, Ramona Thompson (Erik); grandson, Ben Thompson; and a son, Leonard James Childers (Sandy); two brothers, Winfried Bootz and Klaus Schultz (Giesla) , both of Germany; an aunt, Hiltrud Zirimis of Ridge, NY" and a niece Christine Bootz (Elmar) of Germany. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Andreas and Klara Bootz and sister-in-law, Doris Bootz. The family would like to especially thank the love and kindness given to Friede while she was ill by the staff of Rocky Mountain Care Center and Hospice especially Ryan Cook and Barbara Willey. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 1p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 250 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. Family and friends may gather Wednesday evening from 6 AC 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Layton Memorial Park, 1867 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah.
