Gale Maddox

BRIGHAM CITY - Gale Maddox, longtime resident of Brigham City passed away January 11, 2015 during the night. "May I get you something?" for those who had the pleasure of knowing him were more often than not the first words out of his mouth, and as your meeting ended he would be heard asking, "Do you need anything?"
It may be that this was the result of years of dedicated restaurant service as a co-founder of Maddox Ranch House in Perry, Utah. Then again it may be that this was just the kind of man he was.
Born on November 3, 1927 in Smithfield to Irvin Benjamin Maddox and Mary Daines, Gale began a life of adventure. He attended six schools in five years. Eventually he graduated from Box Elder High School.
He lived everywhere from Preston, Idaho to Salt Lake County. His jobs ranged from selling newspapers on the city corner to singing Christmas carols with his sisters. Never afraid to work, he put in 57 years at Maddox and took great pride in a job well done.
He also served proudly in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska on the Aleutian Islands as part of the Alaskan Defense Command. He would speak fondly of his military brothers and was often moved to tears when he told stories of their heroism.
He married DeRevo Harper on March 4, 1949 and later solemnized their marriage in the Ogden Temple March 3, 1984. He was the proud father of four children. His hobbies included golfing with his buddies, watching any sport on T.V. and loving his animals.
He was preceded in death by I.B. Maddox (father), Mary Daines (mother), Doyle (brother), Steve (brother), Donald Daines (brother), Donna (sister) and Major (dog).
He was survived by DeRevo (wife), Jolene Strawn (sister), (children) Dain (Jay), Chad (Kathy), Ben (Ann), Michelle, six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, January 16, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. at the Brigham City 13th Ward Chapel, 25 N. 300 E., Brigham City. Family and Friends may call Friday between 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Church. Interment will be in the Honeyville Cemetery with Military Honors Accorded.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Humane Society.
